General Lord Charles Guthrie

Charles Guthrie, a military officer and past chief of the U.K. Defence Staff, is a sitting member of the House of Lords in the British parliament. A leading intellectual and foreign policy scholar, Lord Guthrie is one of the most decorated and distinguished British citizens. He has been a member of Lightbridge Corporation’s Strategic Advisory Council since 2008.

Lord Guthrie served in the British Army at posts around the world for more than four decades and was knighted by the Queen in 1990. He was principal military advisor to two prime ministers, as well as three secretaries of state for defense. Among numerous appointments, he is trustee of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, member of the International Practitioner Working Group of the National Strategy Information Center, and advisory board member of the Moscow School of Political Studies. Lord Guthrie frequently advises the private sector, serving as a consultant to Rothschild & Sons (the largest investment bank in the United Kingdom) and a director for Advanced Interactive Systems, Colt Defense, Sciens International Fund of Hedge Funds, and Petropavlovsk PLC. Lord Guthrie has forged deep connections to the Gulf region in the Middle East, where he continues to visit at least monthly. In addition to being colonel commandant of the Special Air Service, Lord Guthrie is colonel of the Life Guards, the senior regiment in the British Army. In 2009 the regiment’s cavalry display team, the Musical Ride, performed for the first time outside of Europe in an exhibition in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Lord Guthrie received his education at Harrow School and graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst before being commissioned into the Welsh Guards.
