Nuclear Power Industry and Market Analysis

Nuclear Power Industry in Perspective

According to the World Nuclear Association (WNA), the installed power generating capacity of currently operating nuclear power plants around the world is approximately 375 GWe. WNA’s reference scenario projects a total of 225 GWe of new nuclear generating capacity will be added by 2030, resulting in approximately 600 GWe of installed nuclear power generating capacity in operation by 2030.

The aggregate value of the projected new nuclear generation capacity additions through 2030 is estimated at over one trillion USD.1 Overall, the global nuclear power industry is projected to spend a total of $2.65 trillion US dollars through 2030, with the amount equally divided between the new-build plants (construction and operation) and existing plants (operation).

The existing plants are expected to spend over $400 billion USD on nuclear fuel through 2030, while the new-build plants are projected to spend nearly $120 billion.
