Role Overview
The Environmental Licensing Engineer supports Lightbridge’s mission to advance next‑generation nuclear fuel technologies by ensuring all environmental activities meet federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. This role leads environmental analysis, prepares licensing documentation, and partners with engineering, safety, and regulatory teams to maintain compliance throughout fuel cycle facility siting & development. The engineer plays a critical role in enabling Lightbridge to scale responsibly, operate transparently, and uphold the highest standards of environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental studies and technical evaluations to support licensing, permitting, and regulatory submissions.
- Prepare, review, and maintain environmental reports and supporting technical documentation for permitting and licensing submittals.
- Develop and maintain environmental monitoring plans, baseline studies, and data analyses aligned with regulatory expectations.
- Evaluate project designs and operational plans for environmental risks, recommending mitigation strategies that align with Lightbridge’s safety and sustainability standards.
- Support the preparation of Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other agency licensing packages, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with regulatory frameworks.
- Track and interpret evolving environmental regulations, guidance documents, and industry standards relevant to nuclear fuel development and demonstration projects.
- Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure environmental requirements are integrated into engineering design, testing, and operational planning.
- Maintain compliance documentation and audit-ready records for internal and external reviews.
- Partner with engineering, safety, quality, and project management teams to embed environmental considerations into early-stage design and program planning.
- Evaluate engineering service providers and site environmental studies contracts.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including regulators, environmental consultants, and partner organizations to support licensing and permitting activities.
- Provide subject-matter expertise during site selection, design reviews, hazard analyses, and risk assessments.
- Contribute to the development of environmental management systems, processes, and tools that scale with Lightbridge’s growth.
- Identify opportunities to streamline environmental workflows, improve documentation quality, and enhance compliance readiness.
- Support internal training and awareness initiatives related to environmental compliance and licensing requirements.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience conducting environmental impact assessments and preparing environmental reports for regulated industries.
- Familiarity with NRC, NEPA, EPA, and state environmental regulatory frameworks.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, and documentation skills.
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into actionable engineering or operational requirements.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Experience in nuclear, advanced energy, or other highly regulated technical sectors.
- Prior involvement in licensing or permitting activities for federal agencies (e.g., NRC, DOE, EPA).
Knowledge of environmental modeling tools, GIS systems, or environmental monitoring technologies.
