Position Summary
The Project & Financial Controls Analyst serves as a key liaison between the Project Management Office (PMO) and the Finance organization, supporting the integration of project performance data particularly Earned Value Management (EVM) with financial reporting. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate cost tracking, budget control, procurement financial oversight, and timely financial reporting across multiple projects. The analyst will support project, procurement, contracts, and finance teams by delivering reliable financial insights, dashboards, and analyses that enable informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Financial Controls
- Support project and financial control activities, including cost tracking, budget monitoring, and basic forecasting under the guidance of project management and finance leadership.
- Assist in integrating project performance metrics (including Earned Value data) with financial reporting to ensure consistency between project and financial systems.
- Perform variance analysis against budgets, forecasts, and baselines, and assist in identifying cost trends, risks, and opportunities.
Procurement & Contract Financial Support
- Support procurement finance processes by tracking purchase orders, commitments, and expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Assist with contract financial administration, including monitoring commitments, invoices, funding limits, and change orders within financial systems.
- Coordinate with procurement and contracts teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure timely and accurate cost recognition.
Financial Reporting & Close Activities
- Gather, validate, and prepare monthly and quarterly accruals in coordination with project management and finance teams.
- Support month-end close activities, including cost reconciliations, journal support, and variance explanations.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation in accordance with internal controls and audit requirements.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Support the development, maintenance, and ongoing analysis of Power BI dashboards, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and usability.
- Perform financial and data analysis to support project performance reviews, management reporting, and ad hoc requests.
- Assist in improving reporting processes, data quality, and documentation standards.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including project managers, procurement, contracts, and finance teams, to ensure timely and accurate financial information.
- Develop foundational knowledge of project controls, financial systems, EVMS practices, and reporting tools through on-the-job training and mentorship.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project controls, finance, or cost analysis.
- In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, 10 years of relevant experience in project controls, financial analysis, or related disciplines.
- Experience working in an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) environment.
- Strong understanding of cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting fundamentals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting procurement and contract financial management.
- Proficiency with Power BI, Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables), and financial or project management systems (e.g., ERP systems).
- Experience working in a PMO or matrixed project environment.
- Familiarity with internal controls, audits, and compliance requirements.
