Quality Assurance Manager - Remote

At Lightbridge, we’re pioneering advanced nuclear fuel technology that’s designed to make reactors safer, more efficient, and more responsive to global energy needs. Our mission is bold—and we’re looking for equally bold thinkers to help us bring it to life. If you’re inspired to apply your engineering expertise to make real-world impact, this is your opportunity to help shape the future of clean energy.

About the Role

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Lightbridge Corporation’s Quality Assurance (QA) program in alignment with nuclear industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. This role ensures that all engineering, manufacturing, testing, procurement and supply chain activities supporting nuclear fuel development meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, traceability, and compliance.

This position plays a critical leadership role in maintaining a strong nuclear safety culture, ensuring disciplined execution, and supporting the successful licensing and commercialization of Lightbridge’s advanced nuclear fuel technology.

The role is also responsible for building and managing the QA organization, including staffing, developing procedures and training, establishing audit and supplier quality capabilities, and providing independent oversight with the authority to identify quality issues, stop work when warranted, and drive effective corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s Quality Assurance Program in accordance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, NQA‑1, and applicable NRC, DOE, and international standards.
  • Build, lead, and develop the QA organization to support ongoing and future activities of Lightbridge.
  • Develop the QA organizational plan (capabilities, tools, and resourcing) and manage budget and external QA support to meet project and commercialization needs.
  • Ensure the QA program is integrated with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, PMO, licensing, and other functions while maintaining appropriate independence.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies, customers, and external auditors on quality matters.
  • Provide QA oversight for nuclear fuel design, analysis, testing, and qualification activities.
  • Ensure engineering processes follow approved procedures, design control requirements, and configuration management standards.
  • Review and approve quality‑affecting documents, including design changes, technical reports, test plans, and nonconformance dispositions.
  • Establish and maintain supplier qualification, audit, and surveillance programs for materials, components, and services supporting nuclear fuel development.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and ensure compliance with nuclear-grade procurement requirements.
  • Oversee supplier audits and drive timely corrective action close-out. Plan and execute internal audits, surveillances, and independent assessments across engineering, operations, and project teams.
  • Manage the corrective and preventive action (CAPA) program, ensuring timely resolution and verification of effectiveness.
  • Investigate nonconformances and quality events, perform root cause analysis, and develop risk-informed mitigation and prevention strategies.
  • Track and report quality metrics, trends, and program performance to senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, and international regulatory requirements related to quality, reporting, and safety.
  • Oversee implementation of 10 CFR 21 reporting processes, including evaluation of deviations and defects.
  • Support licensing activities by providing QA documentation, records, and program evidence.
  • Promote a strong nuclear safety culture grounded in transparency, accountability, and disciplined progress.
  • Provide training and coaching to engineering, project management, and operations teams on QA requirements and best practices.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality processes, reduce risk, and strengthen organizational performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of Quality Assurance experience in the nuclear industry (fuel, reactor systems, components, or nuclear-grade manufacturing), including 5+ years leading QA teams and/or building and implementing an NQA-1/10 CFR 50 Appendix B quality program.
  • Strong working knowledge of NQA‑1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in overseeing audits, assessments, and supplier qualification activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering documentation, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, external stakeholders, and leadership teams to drive results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nuclear fuel design, fabrication, or testing environments.
  • Lead Auditor certification (NQA‑1 or equivalent).
  • Experience supporting NRC or DOE licensing activities.
  • Background in advanced materials, fuel performance, or nuclear R&D environments.
  • Practical understanding of nuclear plant system operations, especially reactor safety systems
