Director of Information Technology - Remote
About the Role
Lightbridge is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Information Technology to lead digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise systems, and advanced computing environments supporting nuclear fuel development and commercialization. This role serves as a key advisor to leadership, ensuring technology strategy aligns with regulatory requirements, operational needs, and long-term growth, while driving innovation through AI and modern cloud architecture.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Infrastructure & Cloud Strategy
- Lead the development and execution of IT, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure strategy.
- Design and manage Azure-based cloud architecture, including enterprise WAN connectivity, ensuring secure and scalable access to corporate and engineering systems.
- Build and maintain a technology roadmap supporting R&D, licensing, and future manufacturing operations.
- Advise executive leadership on IT strategy, digital engineering, and information governance.
- Develop and manage technology budgets, capital planning, and resource forecasting.
AI Strategy & Deployment
- Lead enterprise AI initiatives, identifying and implementing AI/ML solutions across engineering, operations, and business functions.
- Oversee deployment and integration of AI tools, ensuring alignment with business objectives and infrastructure.
- Establish AI governance practices, including responsible use, data integrity, and compliance.
- Collaborate with technical teams to integrate AI into modeling, simulation, and analytics workflows.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Direct enterprise cybersecurity programs, including risk management, monitoring, and incident response.
- Ensure alignment with NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST SP 800-171, and related standards.
- Manage cybersecurity vendors and managed service providers.
GCCH & Secure Computing
- Oversee Microsoft Government Community Cloud High (GCCH) environments.
- Ensure protection of export-controlled and proprietary data in compliance with DOE Part 810, EAR, and ITAR.
- Maintain secure collaboration environments for engineering and licensing teams.
Engineering Systems & HPC
- Lead deployment and operation of HPC environments supporting modeling, simulation, and fuel design.
- Ensure system performance, reliability, and security, including backup and disaster recovery.
Enterprise IT Operations
- Oversee Microsoft 365, Azure, WAN/hybrid networking, identity management (Entra ID), endpoints (Intune), and user support.
- Manage vendors, procurement, licensing, and IT service delivery.
- Serve as primary liaison with outsourced IT and cybersecurity providers.
Digital Engineering & Manufacturing Systems
- Establish data governance practices including classification, retention, and access control.
- Support QA and Nuclear Safety with configuration-controlled digital records.
- Develop IT strategies supporting pilot fabrication, MES, quality systems, and future manufacturing operations.
End-User Support
- Oversee employee IT services including provisioning, support, and on-call capabilities to ensure a secure and productive environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in IT, cybersecurity, or digital infrastructure.
- 7+ years in leadership roles managing IT operations, infrastructure, or cybersecurity programs.
- Experience supporting engineering or scientific computing in regulated industries (nuclear, energy, aerospace, or similar).
- Strong experience with:
- Microsoft Azure (including WAN and hybrid networking)
- Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, SharePoint Online
- Cloud architecture and infrastructure
- Cybersecurity operations and governance
- Data protection, backup, and disaster recovery
- GCCH environments
- HPC or scientific computing platforms (Linux/Windows)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nuclear energy, advanced reactors, national labs, or similar regulated environments
- Familiarity with Linux, NetSuite, Deltek Cobra, Primavera P6, and Power BI
- Experience with AI/ML tools or enterprise AI deployment
- Knowledge of NIST 800-171, NQA-1, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, or export-controlled environments
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CCSP, Azure certifications)
- Experience in hybrid IT environments and digital engineering initiatives
